Our recommendation is don't get the NOS types- they are rarely quiet enough. I'm running a ZYX Universe (0.24 mV) at home with no noise issues with either preamp (I just went from the MP-3 to an MP-1).The MkII tube regulator can fail but the preamp will still run. Noise issues in the phono is one of the more common problems. If you are still running the tube regulator, I recommend replacing the tube and all the ICs on the board in the power supply and the head unit. They are socketed and available from Radio Shack (TLO72 or TLO82 works fine) for about $1.00 each.
