I've spent a good amount of time with both the 989 and the A3. I've even had my own amps hooked up to them.Defining "get up and go" is difficult at best. I'm going to assume you want to reproduce more of the impact of a live event. This is really dynamic range. The A3 will handle the musical transients a good deal better than the Quad. SoundLab has the best dynamic range of any ESL I know. Don't get me wrong, with the right amplification, and set up well, the 989 is most impressive, but it just doesn't rock.
I hope this helps.
