I really liked it as well. I thought it filled the spacious bedroom with rich, robust sound without sounding strained. (hmmm.. sounds like a Bose ad.) I am sure if you put on a huge symphonic recording both amp and speakers would be taxed, but for modest listening it seemed like an ample combination.
Do you have problems finding non-microphonic 171's? In my experience some of the very early triodes tend to be quite microphonic. A WE 205D amp I was working on had such microphonic tubes that you had to walk carefully or you would hear all kinds of ringing and jangling.
