the line beteen hi-fi and truly hi-fi is hard to define.i am talking about the entire spectrum of sound reproduction.look back over the entire history;from the earliest:wax cylinders, shellac records, acoustical recording thru electrical recording, the advent of the LP(long playing)record to the cd and the next attempt,sacd/dvd-audio.there has been an over arching striving to improve the reproduction of music so that it more closely resembles the REAL thing.up to this point, that striving for better sound reproduction has been a major driving force in the recording industry.it is not the only force.one of the other forces at work was also to make money.recording companies could claim and did claim better sound as a reason for buying their product.but as i see it now we are seeing a major divergence from the forces that have propelled recording companies.there is a growing trend within the buying public (especially the under 40 demographic)that quantity is better than quality.in the past quality trumped quantity .i think that for the first time quantity(with a much lower regard for quality than in the past is driving the market.AND I THINK THAT THIS IS A SEISMIC SHIFT.
for those who still have a regard for quality this has to be a major concern.i could go on and on but i will stop at this pont
