it's important to point out that the pop/rock genre wasn't always well-served by its American pressings and I wouldn't want to demonstrate Lp playback with one. It is very important to point out that European pressings, especially of Classical, are *breathtaking.* I just came back to vinyl after 20 years of listening to CDs and couldn't be happier. I went all the way though and bought a record cleaning machine, and all, *all* of my carefully-chosen used records, from .50 cents upwards, are CD quiet. You mention this "distortion" again, which I see people mention all the time, perhaps it's there, but there's more to it than that: imaging, fleshing out of timbre, soundstaging and depth is simply better on lp. No one was a nay-sayer more than me before I actually sat down and listened! I was glad to see in the EMM labs postings above that the authors admitted, with qualifications, that Lp playback is still superior.
