My Marantz SA8260 is facing problems for 3 discs. 1 SACD and 2 CD. All 3 used to work fine. But suddenly one day the player decided that it did not want to play....no matter what I do. The 3 discs are Alison Krauss - New Favourite SACD, Best Of Sade CD and Elvis, The Essential Collection (UK) CD. One SACD that I had to send back thrice was the Patricia Barber - Modern Cool. 2 copies skipped after 5th and 8th song. The 3rd copy would not play the SACD/CD layers at all.
I wrote to Marantz and they advises that I send it to Worl Wide Service in IL for some upgrade. I did a small test after that. I burnt a RBCD on a CD-R and used the Internet's database to "tag" the songs and CD title (TEXT). Then I tried to play the disc on my player. The player first showed "Error", then within 2 seconds showed the Album Title. Then I pressed the play button and it just freezed - no spinning. Somehow I have a feeling that the Marantz players have issues with some copyright s/w on the discs. I can see that the newer Marantz player have "done away" with the TEXT for CDs, though they have retained it for SACDs. The s/w or TEXT on the CD layers is probably causing the read issue to my player. I am planning to send my player for upgrade next month.
