New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

add on...not even centered, it sets modestly off to one side. By next winter I will have a 42" monitor sitting on top of the left cabinet, but it will not alter the five full-range Thiel setup.

The system consists of five full range Thiels (fronts are 2 2's, center and rears are 3.5's) driven by five Outlaw M200 monoblocks (200-300wpc). Preamp is actually three identical Onkyo P301 preamps from the early '90's, operated via a single ganged remote control. These feature lighted funtion identification, a lighted volume marker, and the ability to switch eight sources, including phono. The preamps are fed from a Sony XA2000ES SACD player, a Pioneer 578a DVD-V and DVD-A player, and a four channel professional 15-30ips Onkyo MTR-12 tape machine from the basement(this allows the multichannel setup to double as a multichannel final monitoring setup when I record). The system is also fed from a Carver TX-11 tuner, a Marantz 680 CD recorder, a Dual 701/Marcof/Accuphase phone system, and a switchbox. The switchbox handles inputs from: the tv, the Marantz recorder output, a two-channel Teac 4070 tape deck, and a Proceed PDP DAC, in turn fed by a DTI Pro noise shaper/dejitter. The DTI in turn is fed input from a Panasonic 3500 DAT machine, the digital output of the Marantz, and the digital output of the Pioneer DVD player.

The speakers are nearly ITU...the fronts are five degree's closer to centerline, and the rears are ten degrees further forward. All are equadistant and the SACD system is run completely in bypass mode, from SACD trough the Preamps. Neither the SACD nor the DVD player use any form of bass or distance processing.

I have been so re-energized that I buy/listen to more musica than I have since the early '70's. And this is not just the multicnannel stuff (although that is spectacular). I find myself listening to my old records and to FM as well. A golden age reborn, as far as I'm concerned.

p.s. You can see an slightly-out-of-date version of the system in the gallery under theaudiohiffle.
