New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

So many problems...

1. The "Quad" of the 70s is working against the playing of multi-channel music, - the novelty of loud rear channel information...

1.(a). Bad recordings, - engineers putting loud information in the rear channels. No one sits in the middle of the stage...

2. The expense of outlaying thousands upon thousands of dollars to buy multichannel equipment. For me, - I can say that it will be at least double the cost of my stereo system. I can't afford a $50K system.

3. Confusion with home theatre. The goals of HT are opposite of multi-channel music. The sounds that make Arnold's bombs sound "real" are the very sounds that audiophiles call "harsh" and aren't compatible with Stravinsky's lush strings.

4. Room size, - people just don't have enough room to put all of those speakers, and all of those cables in.

Why didn't Engineers, Producers, musicians, and record companies take the necessary steps to distance themselves from the wretched novelty that was "quad?" Quad died for a good reason. Modern multichannel does the same thing by placing speakers somewhere, anywhere, near the rear of the room. At best, - the audience will get confused with HT, - and Hollywood, - which is horrible. If the recordings, and the MC setup started out by creating a HUGE distance between HT, Quad, etc. by placing the speakers in a SEMI-CIRCLE: things would be in a much better place today. I see speakers behind the listener and I run from the room.

I am reminded of the Von Schweikert/Dartzeel fiasco last year at CES. A million dollar system producing the worst sound of the show, - IMO.
