The room I've dedicated to listening was chosen because of its excellent acoustics: wooden floor, dimensions, completely enclosed space. If I added rear speakers, then I would have to sit too close to the fronts; the room is not large enough for them. I have larger rooms that could easily accommodate the additional surround sound speakers, but the acoustics are not nearly as good. It's actually astounding the details which are lost when I move my speakers to a different room.
