Also, because of the complex acoustic environment of earcup/ear-canals, etc.., understanding or interpreting headphone measurements is not as simple or as well understood as loudspeaker measurements are. What might appear on headphone measurement graphs as shocking "jagged" peaks and/or troughs might in fact sound acceptably flat to individual(s) involved in actual listening tests. That which the eardrums pick up is the sum of all earcup/ear-canal interactions (soft tissues as well as solid surfaces, etc...), whereas final loudspeaker measurements are usually taken within the confines of solid, rectangular rooms.

Designing, measuring, and/or evaluating a pair of headphones might actually be more of a subjective "hit and miss" affair than we would like to admit to in these modern times...
