I have many DVD-A titles that I enjoy to varying degrees. But I have never owned a DVD-A and CD version of the same recording. Until now that is. I listed to both, only via 2 ch sound.I compared the two side-by side and it makes me so very sad that I have been stuck with CDs for 25 years for the majority of my music. The DVD-A tracks are so much better...it sounds like real music, vs digital. The CD is fatiguing over time, while the DVD-A is liquid, deep, and real. The high frequencies sound very real, and lack strain. Without comparison, the CD would be pretty good – but directly compared it pales.
I am not sure if this particular production just didn't optimize the CD conversion process very well, or this is what 24 bit high res audio gets you. Regardless, the difference is so striking that it is upsetting.
Thoughts/comments anybody? Anyone else do this or similar comparison?
Good Listenting!
