Bouncing to analog? No. Ainlay mentioned using a 2" 16-track analog as his source, so there was no bounce to analog. That's where he started.

And right now I'm sure you're thinking, "No way - BIA was a digital recording. It said so right on the CD artwork." Well, reality often doesn't match up with what's printed on the cover. :-) Anyway, in 1985 digital recording was new in the pop/rock world, and it wasn't proven, so it wasn't trusted. It was standard practice at the time (and for a number of years afterward) to make an analog multi as well, just in case.

So, again, speculation, because I haven't talked to Ainlay and I haven't seen any documentation, but I suspect the analog source tape he used was just that - the backup multi. It's what I would choose to use today, instead of some nasty digital multi off an ancient Sony DASH.
