The operations on several, or accumulated 24 bit samples at 32 bit precision *can indeed* result in 32 bit samples (or higher!) as Christine explained above.
Now I think we all agree that 32 bit PCM was not going into the system, and 32 bit PCM was not going out.
But while in Nuendo, yes, the music could have easily existed as 32 bit pcm. Unless he set everything to 24 bit, which you can do with as simple pulldown. (But on new project start, it is 32 bit.)
