I have installed over 12 Furutech IEC inlets. They have all been the solderless type (models FI-09 and FI-10, in both gold and Rhodium flavors). They all have the name Furutech and the model # embossed on the front of the inlet. I actually was just looking at two FI-10 inlets last night.

Chris, where do you purchase them from? I'm having a hard time finding the FI-09 & FI-10 I can only find the basic inlet.
The FI-09 looks large on the back side, are these able to go into a basic IEC hole as an upgrade, or does the hole need to be enlarged? Am I correct to assume that the FI-10 can fit in a standard hole?
Which is better the Rhodium-Plated or the 24K Gold-Plated?
Hi Connectronix, download the following PDF files for product information and cutout dimensions:

I believe Harmonic Technology was the US distributor and most HT dealers can also source those parts for you.

........CryoParts.
They stock 3 different models each with 2 choices of plating.

The FI-09 are a different cutout and my favorite 15amp inlet upgrade because of the clamping mechanism. The FI-10 are a drop-in usually. VH-Audio is where I usually get them from: http://www.vhaudio.com/acreceptacles-comp.html
The Rhodium plated does sound different then the gold plated. The Rhodium is a cleaner and more articulate sounding inlet. The Rhodium is also a bit quicker and more immediate, the gold version is a bit warmer, and a bit more laid back. I do not think one is better then the other. Really depends on the application. To my ears, the FI-09 and the FI-10 sound the same. The FI-09 is more robust, with a clamping mechanism that is like a vise grip. Go to the link and you can see closeup pics of the two inlets.
Chris
Thanks Chris & Doug, that helps me out a lot.
If the FI-09 and FI-10 sound the same, why spend the extra $40 on the FI-09?
Not to mention it is harder to retrofit into an existing standard IEC hole.
You always wonder if what you have on your equipment is any good, but it doesn't hurt to upgrade it. That's what makes this fun.
I often wonder why manufacturers don't spend an extra $100-$150 on better wire and connections to make their stuff much better. It's like they think that it's good enough or that it doesn't matter. I always hear that people hear an improvement using the new Audiophile grade fuses. Why don't manufacturers spend the $25 and put one in? 1) So we wouldn't have to & 2) because it will be that much better right out of the box.
I guess that's how we keep the accessory/tweak companies in business.
I have to differ with the above post in that I have (3) Furutech FI-09G installed in my system and a equal number of the earlier model bronze FI-10 installed that I purchased several years ago prior to the introduction of the copper cryoed FI-09 model.
Based on my listening experience the pure copper FI-09 is sonically superior to the FI-10 by quite a large margin especially in the mid to low bass. The overall sound the the copper inlet is richer, fuller with a deeper midrange. There is simply more power and energy in the musical presentation with the FI-09 compaired to the bronze FI-10. I am in the process replacing the last three FI-10 with new FI-09G inlets. Yes they are expensive ($55 each) but in my view they are worth the price. They are the best built and best souning component inlets on the market toay and the better your system is the more you can hear the improvement.
Johnny
That is very interesting that you think the FI-09 Inlet is superior to the FI-10. I have never noticed a difference, no matter the quality of gear, but then again I have never replaced a FI-10 with a FI-09, only fresh installs. Until now, I have not thought of replacing a FI-10 with a FI-09. Thanks for chiming in, I will replace one of the FI-10 in my system and compare in the next two weeks.
Chris
The FI-09 has a more robust wire clamping system and can except larger gauges/more wire. I am soon going to order a FI-09 from Chris VH for a big custom PLC project that I will be doing soon. The FI-10 works fine for 10ga. or smaller wire, the FI-09 will except two 12ga. - 10ga. wires.
Chris
cdc, did you install IEC from outside or inside of the chasis? I bought one for my upc-200. It's too big so that i have to install it from outside of the chassis.
All of the ones I have installed are mounted on the outside of the chassis, looks better this way too in my opinion.A recommendation if I may, go to Osh or Ace Hardware or wherever and get a pair of brass bolts, nuts and washers for the install. If you want a silver bolt for cosmetics, use Stainless steel. Both brass and stainless steel is non-magnetic.
Chris
cool,thanks.
I end up ordering FI-10 and will install from outside as well. Home Depot and Lowes are near my place and i'll check the out the brass screw.
Hi raffells, and Connectronix,
I cannot speak for Chris (cdc), but VH-Audio has these IEC inlets (see link below). I've purchased many times from Chris VenHaus and it has always been a positive experience.
Also, raffells, if you click the pic on the link shown below, you can see what Chris (cdc)was referring to about "Furutech and the model #" embossed on the IEC itself.
Raffells, hope you got the real thing!!
Regards,
Doug
It is now looking a little as though something smells?.
I have enclosed link to the item on Ebay but the item DOES NOT have Furutech embossed on the inlet.
I shall take this up with the seller who deals in all sorts of similair items.
I would agree with the description of how the Rhodium plated item sounds compared to a brass original.I also think it needs a sleeve around the Plug as their is a small amount of waggle which became evident when I upgraded the Plug to s Schurter?..
