The FI-09 are a different cutout and my favorite 15amp inlet upgrade because of the clamping mechanism. The FI-10 are a drop-in usually. VH-Audio is where I usually get them from: http://www.vhaudio.com/acreceptacles-comp.html
The Rhodium plated does sound different then the gold plated. The Rhodium is a cleaner and more articulate sounding inlet. The Rhodium is also a bit quicker and more immediate, the gold version is a bit warmer, and a bit more laid back. I do not think one is better then the other. Really depends on the application. To my ears, the FI-09 and the FI-10 sound the same. The FI-09 is more robust, with a clamping mechanism that is like a vise grip. Go to the link and you can see closeup pics of the two inlets.

Thanks Chris & Doug, that helps me out a lot.
If the FI-09 and FI-10 sound the same, why spend the extra $40 on the FI-09?
Not to mention it is harder to retrofit into an existing standard IEC hole.
You always wonder if what you have on your equipment is any good, but it doesn't hurt to upgrade it. That's what makes this fun.
I often wonder why manufacturers don't spend an extra $100-$150 on better wire and connections to make their stuff much better. It's like they think that it's good enough or that it doesn't matter. I always hear that people hear an improvement using the new Audiophile grade fuses. Why don't manufacturers spend the $25 and put one in? 1) So we wouldn't have to & 2) because it will be that much better right out of the box.
I guess that's how we keep the accessory/tweak companies in business.
I have to differ with the above post in that I have (3) Furutech FI-09G installed in my system and a equal number of the earlier model bronze FI-10 installed that I purchased several years ago prior to the introduction of the copper cryoed FI-09 model.
Based on my listening experience the pure copper FI-09 is sonically superior to the FI-10 by quite a large margin especially in the mid to low bass. The overall sound the the copper inlet is richer, fuller with a deeper midrange. There is simply more power and energy in the musical presentation with the FI-09 compaired to the bronze FI-10. I am in the process replacing the last three FI-10 with new FI-09G inlets. Yes they are expensive ($55 each) but in my view they are worth the price. They are the best built and best souning component inlets on the market toay and the better your system is the more you can hear the improvement.

That is very interesting that you think the FI-09 Inlet is superior to the FI-10. I have never noticed a difference, no matter the quality of gear, but then again I have never replaced a FI-10 with a FI-09, only fresh installs. Until now, I have not thought of replacing a FI-10 with a FI-09. Thanks for chiming in, I will replace one of the FI-10 in my system and compare in the next two weeks.
Chris
The FI-09 has a more robust wire clamping system and can except larger gauges/more wire. I am soon going to order a FI-09 from Chris VH for a big custom PLC project that I will be doing soon. The FI-10 works fine for 10ga. or smaller wire, the FI-09 will except two 12ga. - 10ga. wires.
Chris
cdc, did you install IEC from outside or inside of the chasis? I bought one for my upc-200. It's too big so that i have to install it from outside of the chassis.
All of the ones I have installed are mounted on the outside of the chassis, looks better this way too in my opinion.A recommendation if I may, go to Osh or Ace Hardware or wherever and get a pair of brass bolts, nuts and washers for the install. If you want a silver bolt for cosmetics, use Stainless steel. Both brass and stainless steel is non-magnetic.
Chris
cool,thanks.
I end up ordering FI-10 and will install from outside as well. Home Depot and Lowes are near my place and i'll check the out the brass screw.
