Looking for your opinions on the Class D gen 3 gear. Especially the Crown XLS Drive Core Series. They have DSP capabilities, active crossovers, and gain control. Very flexible. And sound great. No need for two hundred lb Class A/B unless unless a space heater is required
Follow Ups:
IIRC, specs-wise in the series, the Crown XLS 1502 model and above have better specs than the lowest-powered model (the XLS 1002). Something to look into if such things matter to you.

Specs wise, do you mean SNR?
Yes, SNR. I can't remember if THD is different. It's been years since I looked at them in detail.

The issue with my XLS2502 is that it doesn't have the low level details like my other AMPs can provide.
The higher power ones like Crown XLS2502 tend to sound pretty good on speakers like Magnepan LRS/+.

As you can see, when the signal crosses zero the switches on the positive rail and negative rail are half open. This greatly reduces the crossover distortion and improves the stability of the amp in low impedance loads. This is similar to the class A in a analog amp.
My bad. According to Crown Audio, XLS 2502 is a class D amp not class I.
Their class I amps like K1 and K2 have a better bass but worse treble.
Also there is a 1.3ms latency. It is not an easy job to bi-amp or subwoofer if you are sensitive to phase delay.
it's nice to include a pictogram of a description if it's that important. It can be a pita to look all over the web for what's in your mind. So most of us are not time consumers or wasters

...given that you seem to have already formed yours. "Very flexible. And sound great"
If it's validation you're looking for, I'll give you mine. I'd say my Crown XLS-2002 (which I use as a subwoofer amp) sounds "very good" full range, but I wouldn't call it great. That wasn't the case at first though. It sounded horrible right out of the box when used full range, but Inmate Cougar encouraged me to allow it to break in, assuring me it would get better. Damned if he wasn't right. I'd never have believed the level of change if I hadn't experienced it for myself.
I have used one with Mini-Maggies. Detailed with plenty of power. I think it's a good amp.
just opaque on top. Used one in the garage for a while. An Ncore that replaced it was better.
Yep, I have one. Good value and can drive difficulty speakers.
Class I is kind like class A in class D.

Here is my opinion:
1. Sounds better than I expected.
2. Sounds very "accurate". Treble is a little rolled off.
3. I use it as a backup amp. And sometimes I want to use it to shake my house.
4. SQ/$ ratio is very high. It can drive difficult loads.
5. I have other class A and class A/B amps. They are better. But not by much.
Oh, it doesn't bi-amp well with other class A, class A/B amps. The delay in bass is too much. You need two of these amps to bi-amp.
Interestingly, the new WiiM Ultra, which has a separate subwoofer output, includes settings for crossover frequency, sub volume, phase, and also a latency setting that can be applied to either the sub or the main speakers. The flexibility of this unit is quite impressive for the price.
(I recognize that a subwoofer output is not the same thing as traditionally bi-amp speakers....)
I tri-amp.
