"So, Kenster, where else do these little penny mockups have an impact? I assume they're vibrational sinks, similar to constrained layer sandwiches, right? ONly smaller..."Yes, the GS Acoustic discs are vibration sinks working on the same principal as the Tekna-sonics vibration absorbers/transducers which turn vibrations into heat.
The penny mockups do provide a taste of what the real Acoustic discs do but GS has certainly done their homework and no matter how precise I was in the assembly, I could not duplicate the results.
The acoustic discs have provided VERY good results when applied to transformers, both output and mains, AC plug bodies, AC IEC ends, heatsinks, subwoofer drivers, speaker baskets, large electronic components and even had a very positive effect when I applied one to the DAC in my CD player.
I don't use the penny mockups anymore but in a pinch, or if one wants to experiment, they will work. Just make sure the double sided tape is cut as round as possible and half the area of the penny. I even tried nickels but they seem to be too heavy to work with any degree of efficiency.
Cheers,
