I use the HRS damping plates with good results, especially on top of my speakers. I have always been intrigued by the couplers. However, in your configuration I would think the granite would impart some ringing. Do the couplers negate this effect. If so, you have a very inexpensive version of the HRS base.BTW - I was told by someone that the non-metal material used with the plates is 40 durometer rubber. Seems like this could be easily purchased at places like McMaster-Carr. Perhaps attaching the rubber to a heavier mass item like stone, lead, or brass might impart the same effect as the plates.
