12au7's can be broken into categories: 1) Mullard and Brimar have nice rich mid range, 2)Telefunken and Siemens have a flat midrange with a detailed and large soundstage 3) Amperex Holland are sweet and considered by many to be the best for female voices and jazz, 4) RCA blackplates with some equipment is great, less lush than the clear tops but much more accurate. Any of these 12au7 and variants are great with different attributes. I use Telefunken EC82's in my Rogue for a huge sound!
