Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Hi all,I have been running Mullard EL34 xf2s in my Dyna ST-70 since I first purchased it five or six years ago. I was lucky for the tubes to last as long as they did, but now they are pretty much toast. I tried a quad of EH EL34 and I was appalled at the sound. I am not generally a picky, pointy head type person, but the difference in sound was staggering. I would like to replace the Mullards with a cheaper model if possible. I have searched the archives and found that most folks think the "new" mullards bear pretty much no relation to the originals. It seems that a lot of folks love the SED winged C tubes. Are these my best option? Are they a significant sonic downgrade from the original Mullards? Like I said, I would much prefer a cheaper option, but if nothing will sound close to the Mullards, I will just save up for awhile for NOS and be without stereo power. Thanks for your help.
Dan
