It may be a matter of personal preference. A number of people have reported that 6922 tubes tend to sound more solid state-like, with more apparent detail, while octals tend to be bassier, warmer, etc. by comparison. When Vacuum Tube Valley tested 6DJ8s and its variants including 6922s, they came right out and said that they did not consider 6DJ8s a very neutral sounding tube, and clearly preferred the sound of 6SN7s - which you can easily gather by reading the VTV line stage article. Which is more neutral or more "real" is a subjective judgment. In my case, comparing a commercial phono preamp using two 6DJ8s to a DIY tube preamp using octals (6SU7GTY, 6SN7, 6J5) I thought the latter sounded warmer, more detailed especially in the bass (I could hear bass lines more clearly as musical lines as opposed to isolated bass sounds), bigger and more "real." Of course, since I built it I'm probably prejudiced. :-)
