Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I have not tried too many different circuit types, but I've seemed to notice my 6SN7 preamps (eg: VTV, simple gain stage, SRPP) are fuller/fatter, not as detailed, etc. when compared to a simple gain stage using a 6922 or a few other 9 pin variants. I have not listened to the 6SN7 SRPP a lot yet, but the other layouts just don't seem "real" sounding. The simple 6922 stage is almost holographic it's spooky and better detailed. Using a 6J5 the same way didn't sound exceptional in any way. I have tried the linestages using an ST70 and Quicksilver Mini-monos. Is this a circuit design issue, or more related to a preference of tube types?
