IME the one thing Hg rectifiers are NOTORIOUS for is switching noise. I've got a large reg DC supply that uses 2x872As (I keep them there cause they look so cool). Bring an AM radio near them while operating and the entire band is wiped out with 120Hz noise.Hg rectifiers require special care for LN apps but certainly have their place in the DIY realm IMO.
