"Voltage drop differs from rectifier to rectifier. The 5R4 family has a different (larger) voltage drop than the 5U4 family.This change in drop changes the operating points of much of the amp circuitry.
Also, while the 5U4G and GB have similar specs, the 5U4G has a somewhat different voltage drop than the 5U4GB.
The power supply does have a MAJOR impact on the audio performance."
Yes and especially in a SET where the PS is being hammered all the time. The voltage and thus the output tube bias point change will change the sound of an amplifier.
Some people talk about Class A single ended drawing constant current. This is only true over a time period. If we look at it moment by moment the power is being modulated by the signal directly.
This is not true of a PP Class A output stage and the power supply will have much less of an impact on the sound.
