I would think convential wisdom would that the Citation II is the best. It is certainly the most expensive. Without you giving any idea of how the amp will be used, what speakers, room, music, I will assume you just want to tell your friends that your have the "best." If that is the case, then do yourself a favour and contact a builder, put down the money, and buy a new amp. The best amps ever made are being made today, and you can probably have one for the price of a Citation II. The Citation II was great for 1970's, as was the Dodge Dart. In my view, the amp has too many stages, employs to much feedback, and has questionable build quality (I have seen the chasis sag on some due to the weight of transformers). If someone sold me one for $200, I would take it, but if I was to spend over $1000...If you have any DIY skill, but the W5's. You can convert them to a differential 6B4G/ 2A3 amp, or even triode EL34's, add some shunt regulation to the driver stage, and though they may never be seen as the "best" by all the mindless audiofools, they will SOUND better than most anything out there....
