what I was after afterall was a preamp that could add that warmth and body and extensive soundstage w/o messing up the freq. extremes and dynamics.>As has been said, the characteristics of DHTs are not warmth but immediacy, detail and accurate instrumental tone, all of which add up to a compelling reproduction of music. I'm in no doubt that a DHT in the preamp stage is important and can give you a lot of the DHT magic you seek. I'd start with the 26 tube and go from there, since there are plenty on ebay, plenty of designs about, and schematic suggestions for a well filtered DC supply which you will need - look at RonanRegs or on the K&K forum. A search should bring up a lot of possibilities. This is not a simple project given the filament supply demands, but it doesn't need batteries if your speakers are normal sensitivity - I use a pair of adjustable bench supplies which are useful for tube rolling with other four pin DHTs. I'm frankly over the moon with the results - the sound is quite transfixing. If you get ambitious you can try parafeed, PP line output transformers, all kinds of implementations. Again there's details of Lundahl solutions on the K&K forum
