Well no you can't get SET sound from a pre amp. The pre amp is important though. The imediacy you get from SET can only come from SET. Although a good pushpull amp can come sort of close. But pushpulls make up for it with power. There is no substitute for power. I have two systems now. I love them both. If you want SET at an afordable price, check out Bottlehead. You have to build it yourself. It's not that hard if you have ever done any soldering.I don't know about the noise issue but my Paramours are very quiet. If I were to guess, SET's are scarce because people think they need alot of power. You would be surprised how good a few watts sounds.
