Hi Mike,
boy, you're busy at the computer between Golden Audio, Citation, and Audio Asylum, to name a few!My Citation is still singing sweetly, thanks to your help.
I have an EL34 amp which uses a pair of 6U8A + 5751's as input tubes. For each 5751 there's a 6U8A tube to operate the 5751 triode voltage gain stage in the most linear manner possible. In addition, the output of the 5751 is optimally coupled to the rest of the circuit and this coupling is such that the 5751 sees virtually no capacitance and no loading at all. It's a nice alternative to the driver board that you like for your Dynaco ST-70's
so I don't need preamp-level performance. I've tried the following tubes so far:
GE JAN 2-mica JG5751: detailed & somewhat bright, weaker bass
RCA 2-mica: not very exciting to listen to
Sylvania 2-mica: nice tubes, lack the detail of the GE's, warmer
GE triple mica, grey plate: so far are the best I've heardSo yes, I'd be interested in your tubes, at least to try in this amp. I've also just ordered a set of JJ KT77's which you and others have found pretty nice.
Fun stuff!
Thanks!
Frank
