A few years ago I was attempting to play a CD through my tube amp.
I had inadvertently turned the preamp selector switch to the wrong
position, but getting no sound I thought I had the volume all the way down. When I turned it up lo and behold the music started emitting from the power tubes.Of course it was just barely audible but fascinated by this I played with the volume knob for a few seconds and the sound would go up or down with the volume setting.
I don't know what it is but it can't be microphonics, because that
is caused by external vibrations shaking the internal structure of the tube(s) in this case there were no external vibrations.Cal
