Thanks for the informative reply. I wasn't actually thinking of buying the Audio Research preamp (I own a Krell 250). The Krell is an amazing solid state amp. The base is deep, crisp and fast. The highs are detailed and sweet without being harsh. The midrange makes love to vocals like no other ss amp I've ever heard. It occurred to me that these Krell qualities might be very compatible with the richness of a great tube preamp.Now if I can only find someone to lend me the AR 2 MkII for a couple weeks!
