Finally! A KT88 I can live with... Thanks!!

Remember my post last month about KT88's sounding like veiled mush? I tried KT88's in a couple ARC amps and a CJ Premier 11a, always preferring to swap them out for 6550C tubes.

Well, those KT88's were always SED or Svetlana which is what came in my latest toy, a used (but mint condition) ARC VT50 amp. I listened to this amp for a couple hours until I couldn't stand it no more and immediately swapped the KT88's out for SED 6550C. I like the SED 6550C but wish it had a little more 'body'.

Jim McShane and a couple others suggested I try the Electro-Harmonix KT88's or some highly regarded Chinese brands. My EH-KT88's arrived today and I can hardly contain myself! Right out of the box with no break in, I could tell these EH-KT88's were special.... (or that my other SED KT88's were just old duds). In any case, I've had the VT50 amp ON all day breaking in playing background music and it's sounding mighty fine, thank you!
