I'm no expert but I had a simular thought about my Quicksilver KT88s.
After some tube rolling I found that the top extended but never quite got the bottom I wanted. I miss them though the Rogue M120 that replaced them are great but lack a bit of that vintage tube sound(LUSH,LUSH,LUSH Mids).
