Interesting how experiences differ. I have a pair of Dynaco MkIIIs with Triode El. driver boards and SDS Labs cap board. I populated the driver board with audiophile parts (Multicap PPFXS for caps). Speakers are Thiel 2.2 I have been switching back and forth between SED 6550s and JJ KT88s which I'm guessing have about 50 hours of playing time on each. Operation is at 70mA, ultralinear and 485 volts on plate. Both are very good performers but I prefer the SED 6550s as they offer better balance and more fullness in the bass region. I've rolled driver and phase splitter tubes but the characteristic difference remains. As I say, interesting! I wonder if different production runs or where they sit in terms of grading (bias voltage vs plate current)comes into play.Jack
