Can anyone help me to understand why the major sonic differences between 6550 and KT-88?"

Well, it is just possible that a completely different tube type installed in a given amplifier will sound completely different from the ones removed from that amplifier if the amplifier is not completely changed to suit the characteristics of the newly installed tube.
Moreover, it would not be unusual to find that a different tube would have different audible characteristics from another. I have noticed myself that an EL34, installed in an amplifier designed around the EL34, will sound very different from a 6L6 installed in the very same amplifier.
It is really surprising, but not all tubes perform exactly alike. That's why there are different numbers on the tubes. Those numbers define the tube in question as adhering to a specific set of performance parameters. If the tube does not conform to the listed specifications, then it is either defective or not that tube type.
Therefor, one would not expect a tube with the number 6550 to perform exactly like a KT88.
