By reasonable I mean cost - I can't (won't) justify the cost of many of the tubes floating around, therefore can only compare what I've experienced. The only reason I buy NOS tubes is because when I buy them, they cost less new production ones. But in the case of ECC88's I found the Sovtek & JJ tubes to be perfectly acceptable and far superior to the NOS Philips JAN 6922's I've tried. I probably won't ever get to try many of the tubes you mentioned or heard unless I can get them for $8.50 delivered (I spend my money on LP's & CD's first and tubes second) should point out the Sovteks cost me $0.85 each and the JJ E88CC's $9 the pair. I do have a large number of NOS tubes in other types and run most of my tube equipment on them. I usually evaluate a tubes for about 3 weeks before I decide to use it in preference to another (took me over 6 months to settle on a combination of NOS tubes for my Pre-amp) tubes date 1950's(Marconi) 1970's(Sylvania) 1960's(Brymar) respectively, total cost of those tubes $14.85.
