EBay for tubes is no better or worse than it is for anything else. Just don't get sucked into a bidding war, and go with a seller with a high feedback rating. I also support buying batches of used tubes, which is exactly what I'm doing for 6SN7s for my arriving-this-week ASL Hurricanes. I'm up to about 2 dozen. :-)
BTW I have 1 used-but-good T-funken smooth-plate ECC83 I'd love to sell affordably, as in $15. E-mail me at jeffreybehr(at)cox(dot)net if you're interested.
