Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Hi all, I've been reading up quite a bit on this board trying to get a clear picture on which route to take, and can't seem to figure it out.I have a Jolida Music Envoy pre-amp with stock chinese tubes. I love the sound, but also realize the stock tubes can be improved. I wouldn't mind warming up the sound, especially for LP's.
I have two 12AT7's and 2 12AX7's.
It has been suggested that I use Mullard CV4024's for the AT7's and Brimar CV4004's for the AX7's.
My only reservation about this is that these 4 tubes will run me close to $200!!
I have to believe that I can find the same sound, if not better with other tubes that cost half as much. Especially if I'm just upgrading stock tubes.
Thanks for the advice. I totally realize that tubes can sound different on different systems. I'm more or less looking for GOOD warm tube sound, that I don't have to get a home equity loan for!!

- '6201' is the model of the tube, just as 12AT7 is. A 6201 (apparently) is a direct replacement... - jeffreybehr 09:57:02 01/17/06 (0)
