5K primary is too low for a PP EL84. I would think anything between 7-9K would be a better load. Or did you intend to say SE? 5K is more SE territory.That aside, EL84's are the easiest guys to drive. Just about any schematic can't go wrong. For starter look for Dynaco St35 or Leak 20. Both excellent sonic wise.
As for what could be superior to El84, that’s a difficult one :( I assume you wish to use your 5K PP OPT. You may look at PP 6L6-G.
