EL84/6BQ5s are a nice tube, there's a lot of good ones out there. I really can't pick a "best", but I like RCA, Mullard, and (believe it or not) Japanese made tubes - that's the best of the old stock IMHO. That's not to say the others like GE and Sylvania are bad - they aren't! In fact in a guitar amp some of the GEs just kill!

In current production - the sound of the Eis is terrific, but the quality sux. So I recommend the JJ unless you can find good Eis. I have some coming I hope will be okay, you might find they would work quite well for you.The Ei have a bit more of a tilt toward bass than the JJ, they might be really good in your system.

Thanks for the heads up on the Citation II. It's a magnificent amp, and properly rebuilt it can hold it's own against anything.
