i almost never buy new equipment. just a losing investment and you get far better sound with stuff that's already depreciated.for $300 or less, there are lots of nice used speakers. just keep hitting your local craigslist. screw ebay unless you can pick up locally. although ebay is good to see the going rate of equipment.
For $300, you can probably finagle an ealry pair of Thiel floorstanders. like 03A, 04A, maybe even CS3. will sound better than anything new this side of $1,500+.
also check out older KEF like Calinda, C80. forget the UNIQ stuff.
