My wife attended Texas Tech (see link below) in the late 70's and her HR was Stevie Ray Vaughn's cousin. He played gigs at Fat Dawg's & Stubb's Barbeque in Lubbock several times in the late 70's and early 80's before breaking big. He even crashed in the women's dorm (with the assistance of his cousin) on the Texas Tech campus to save cash during those lean times. Those who volunteered crash space for Stevie or one of his band-mates got in free to the gigs, a front row table and he'd buy the beer.Stevie Ray crashed on the floor of my wife's dorm room once, his guitar leaning up against the door (my wife, BTW, was a classical musician who eventually performed with the Lubbock Symphony before moving to the D/FW area).
