Agree. Generally some of the earlier "remasters" were an improvement. A few of the newer ones are good, but alot are'nt- just loud and bright. Gastwirts Yes "Fragile" and "Yesyears" box are as good as I've found for that stuff. For Yessongs it's a toss up, the remaster has Squire stronger in the mix, whearas Howe comes through more on the initial Barry Diament version. The Tales from Topographic Rhino is probably the best for that album. Most people like previous Hendrix discs better than the latest 1997 MCA's. The number of times they reissued Hendrix and that they never really got it right is a shame, Gastwirts 1993 MCA discs may be the overall winners- no consensus though. A guy on Hoffman site analyzed the 1997 MCA discs and they have alot of digital clipping, which explains why they are ear bleed bright and loud. The latest David Bowie discs are mostly more of the same...get the Rykos (the silvers or AU 20 golds if you can find them) or the RCA's. I like the 1993 ELP Victory discs the best for BSS and Tarkus, the Rhinos are nearly identical, but the Victory's win by a hair. I never had the first issues of these. The Dennis Drake Polygram 1st issue of ABB "brothers and sisters" sounds excellent, I won't be "upgrading" it, some feel it beats the mofi and the remaster.
