Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

his Haydn symphonies

were good, CD Mozart VPO 40/41 is slooow, and his Copland 60's CD I have is great. Mahler 3rd NYPO pretty good, haven't listened to the CD remake on DGG yet. His VPO Beethoven DGG LP (3rd/7th better) was kind of slooow, and I have a Bayerischen Rundfunks/Arrau/Beethoven Piano Conc 4, mated with symphony 5. I listened to PC a few months ago, slower than the studio Philips Arrau/Haitink/Concertgebouw.

I agree with your post. I used to listen to him as a teen on the radio, thought it was Szell at times (we'd guess), but different, not as controlled. He had a love of 3 orchestras (I have a video showing the relationship he had with them)--the NYPO, the Israel Phil and VPO. And he grew and changed during his journey.
