My late father passed in 1999. Your idea is a good one, something I think I could still do (listen to some stirring Requiems). I was watching a film about Karl Boehm and his relationship with Mozart and the Requiem and other works and also with the VPO the other night.I will pull out my Mozart Requiem and Verdi Requiem recordings and listen to some in your honor.
Sorry about your Dad. Mine lived to 79 and was highly productive also. And he taught all 4 of us children, esp. me, a lot of classical music. He loved classical period and early romantic, so he would have played Mozart Masses, the Requiem, Beethoven Missa (Thornhill sent me a copy of Szell's and the HvK is wonderful--the older one) and Haydn masses. As TGR wrote, Messiah would be my ticket to Heaven.
