Re: Requiems

So sorry to hear about your father. (I will have to be facing this at some point within the next few years.)

I'd also recommend the aforementioned Berlioz Requiem, with the Davis (Philips) and Munch (RCA) being my choices. Some alternatives for the others you mention are, for the Verdi Requiem, Karajan/La Scala (DG DVD), which I find far, far preferable to either of his audio-only studio recordings, and either of Fricsay's recordings on DG, which are particularly moving (especially the later one--from 1960--where he apparently knew he was going to die soon from cancer). As for the Brahms, I really like Klemperer on EMI--impressively solid and granite-like.
