Your mention of synthecizers and orchestras is a non sequitur; I said that later pianos sound better than earlier pianos, not that we should substitute different instruments.
You do not address my main point, which is not in fact a matter of taste but a matter of fact. The modern piano has a *much* greater expressive range than the pianoforte, and that's good for music.
Though I was once on the OI or HIP bandwagon, these days I find it little more than a novelty to hear OI/HIP versions of music. We all know now that the winds were more prominent in Beethoven's day and that a good deal of the music went faster than we had become used to. We've known those things for a very long time now.
Meanwhile, pluck Mozart or Beethoven out of history and sit them down at a modern grand and ask them if they wish they had one.
