The first small group ensemble I was in at Berklee had Schapperoew on drums, David Ware on tenor, Stanton Davis on trumpet, me on alto, a bass player and (female) piano player whose names I can't remember. The teacher was Charlie Mariano, who laughed his ass off at our ineptitude. Schapperoew, Ware and Davis were into "avante garde", and took every tune Charlie assigned to Mars, which only increased Charlie's laughter. Our group's versions of tunes like Stella or Like Someone In Love sounded more like an artillery battery than music.I played a number of sessions with Jim outside of school. He definitely had some talent. I've never heard anything about him since 1970. Man, where the hell did you find his LP?
