I couldn't access this site for a few days so I decided to put this up here. Makes no sense but so what!
I tried to put music on from 1980 back just for fun and as a focus for me.1:This is an album that is not too famous I suspect. A little of Berklee---thought Rick might know the leader who is the drummer, Jim Schapperoew. On this track Steve Swallow (bass), Charles Farrell (piano) and the tenor player is David Berkin. He's not a household name but a real good player. Yes, there will be more surprises. 1979
2:Stanley Cowell (piano), Stanley Clarke (bass) and Jimmy Hopps (drums). This is a tune from an album "Illusion Suite" 1973. Stanley Clarke -- a surprise?
3: Cedar Walton Trio with Sam Jones and Louis Hayes. The guest is tenor player Clifford Jordan. Thre album is A Night At Boomer's, Vol.1 1973. They were pretty hot that night.
4:The great Chet Baker who seems to be much maligned on this site --but not this time. He seemed to pass unrecognized. Russ Freeman (piano), Carson Smith (bass), Bob Neel (drums). This is a beautiful album and one of the first appearances by Chet live with his own quartet. Jazz at Ann Arbor recorded in 1953.
5:Same rhythm section lineup as #1 but Bob Mover is the alto player. I though of Bob Mover because I had seen him when he worked for a little while with Chet Baker (when a lot of you were little carpet apes). He gassed me then but don't get much of a chance to hear him these days. He is a hell of a player.
6:Had to throw this in because this shows the fluidity of Lee Konitz and how well players who understand each other can play together. Of course it's Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz, Chet Baker, etc. The album is the good old 10" Lee Konitz plays with the Gerry Mulligan Quartet 1953.
As for D Harvey -- maybe identity was not the correct word. Wynton is recognizable also. It's not just sound as you know. You did save space writing Joshua, James and Flip in one sentence. hehehehe yourself!!!
