Sorry, KellyG, I actually wrote a long-winded reply to your post last night, then thought it was nit-picky, so I never submitted it.My gist was that your question assumes that the hypothetical "uninitiated listener" is a Westerner, for one; I suspect that what moves me might not move someone from India or China.
I also think BJordan's point is on the mark--even all of us schooled in Western art music are moved by different things, and what gives me goosebumps gives other folks yawns.
So, in essence, I don't think your question is answerable as such--at least not by me! ;-)
There have been some threads here about what to play for youngsters or newbies to get them interested--perhaps that's a more practical question. You'll probably find hours of reading and a lot of good suggestions by searching.
