I too had my reservations about this unit but when I learned I could run my own dac I couldn't wait to try one. It's an incredible piece of gear for the money.Do not pay attention to the people who talk about opamps, cheap electronics etc. They do not know anything that I'd want to learn. After being in the hobby for over 30 years and a very nice system in a dedicated and fully acoustically treated room I'm positive most people have no idea what they're missing. It's the cost of being closed minded. Besides if the signal stays in the digital domain I don't see how an opamp can affect the sound.
This unit can take a while to tweak to your room for maximum performane. Take your time. Once you get the first part done which is the majority you can just adjust by ear here and there til you learn how to get it just so.
Now you can have your cake and eat it too. Even the dac in this unit amazed me considering all you get for 300 bucks especially.
